A unique hybrid of stories, sounds and performance art, WordPlay kicks off with a pre-game happy hour starting at 7:30 p.m. Along with free drinks, the Bricolage team promises original and interactive surprises, plus the not-to-miss chance for attendees to record their own stories in the company’s mini-studio and participate in an epic audience party game.

The word-fest kicks into high gear at 8 p.m. when five featured storytellers will brazenly read their own stories while local DJs spin an evocative real-time soundtrack. Providing the sonic accompaniment will be Professor ASAP and Jct45 of DJ duo Tracksploitation, specializing in live mashes and mixes using space-age equipment and old-school turntablism. You just might hear anything and everything—from Brahms to Beyoncé, and Johnny Cash to Outkast—as actors, comedy writers, and everyday people read original stories that provide an “extremely intimate look into the life of a total stranger.”

Showcasing true stories about real people in real situations, WordPlay’s content spans a range of experiences and adventures of all kinds. Featured under the spotlight at the mic will be storytellers Ginny Cunningham, Brian Broome, Shawn P. O’Brien, Alan Olifson, and Rob Rayshich.

The unique mash-up event is the brainchild of L.A. native Alan Olifson—an award-winning humor columnist, public radio commentator, comedian and now the host of Pittsburgh’s monthly Moth StorySLAM.

On August 26, the production will feature ASL interpretation by Heather Gray. Large print programs and Braille programs are available for both shows. WordPlay is recommended for ages 18 and older.
