WHAT: The Hip Hop Nutcracker
WHERE: Benedum Center
WHEN: December 11 & 12, 7:30 p.m.

Why You Should Go:

It’s time to experience a fresh new Nutcracker.

No longer set in E.T.A. Hoffmann’s 19th-century Germany, this new twist takes Maria-Clara and her Nutcracker prince on adventures battling mice, visiting the land of sweets and learning life lessons amidst the sights and sounds of contemporary New York City.

Reinventing Tchaikovsky’s iconic score via innovative hip-hop choreography, digital graffiti and even an appearance by legendary rapper Kurtis Blow, it’s a “holiday mash-up for the entire family.” The powerhouse cast showcases 12 all-star dancers, a DJ and an electric violinist.

Directed and choreographed by Jennifer Weber, the production celebrates love, community and the magic of New Year’s Eve.
