WHAT: The Self, Realized: Queering the Art of Self-Portraiture
WHERE: Brew House Association
WHEN: Through March 23, various times
Why You Should Go:
Brew House Association is kicking off its inaugural Prospectus program with two free exhibitions on the South Side. The organization’s new curatorial development opportunity provides space and support for socially-focused exhibitions, while also showcasing emerging local talent on and off the gallery’s walls.
First up is The Self, Realized: Queering the Art of Self-Portraiture, a group exhibition curated by Hannah Turpin featuring 14 LGBTQ+ identified artists. Rethinking traditional, 2-D representational art, the artists use sculpture, video and installation works to explore the multidimensional concept of identity.
The second exhibit, This is Not Romantic — curated by Dana Bishop-Root — opens with a free reception February 21.
