WHAT: Ride With the King: Black History Tour
WHERE: Multiple locations
WHEN: January 19, 9 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
Why You Should Go:
Since 2016, Doors Open has led the public into rarely-seen spaces around Pittsburgh — from architectural icons to private clubs. To celebrate the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday, the nonprofit is debuting a new Black History Tour spotlighting landmark churches in East Liberty, Uptown and the North Side.
Be immersed in Pittsburgh’s rich African-American history and hear firsthand stories from community leaders as you explore famous Hymnal musicians, the story of Daniel’s Den and local contributions to the Underground Railroad.
Also featured will be 19th-century original artifacts at the Dollar Bank Fourth Avenue Building, and the “Familiar Boundaries. Infinite Possibilities,” exhibit at the August Wilson Center.
