WHAT: The Revolutionists
WHERE: City Theatre
WHEN: Through September 30, various times
Why You Should Go:
Heads will roll at City Theatre … figuratively of course. Today’s political climate seems the perfect backdrop for Lauren Gunderson’s bold comedy, The Revolutionists.
Led by an all-female cast and creative team, it’s the first show of City Theatre’s 44th season, Gunderson’s Pittsburgh debut and a night on stage you shouldn’t miss.
Via this “radical and metatheatrical comedy about four badass women out to change the world,” audiences will be transported to 18th-century Paris to meet playwright Olympe de Gouges and her muses — assassin Charlotte Corday, Caribbean freedom fighter Marianne Angelle, and the iconic Marie Antoinette.
Equal parts hysterical and historical, the work explores themes of activism, feminism, terrorism and more.
