Looking for just the right piece for that empty living room wall, or a perfect wedding present for the creative couple in your life? Get a sneak peek at Silver Eye Center for Photography‘s 2014 Benefit Auction this Friday, when the South Side-based venue presents a special preview exhibition and opening reception. A signature fundraiser event for Silver Eye, the 2014 biennial auction features works by Donald Robinson, Susan Derges, William D. Wade, Aaronel deRoy Gruber, Martha Rial, Arne Svensen, Ross Mantle, Sheree Hovsepian, Donna J. Wan, Joe Johnson, Aaron Blum, Sue Abramson, Doug DuBois, Mark Perrott, and others. Now in its eighth year, the eclectic auction features an impressive and diverse selection of both vintage and contemporary work in a range of photographic media, from acclaimed masters, prominent mid-career photographers and young emerging artists.

The auction itself takes place on Sunday, April 27th, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Clear Story Studio, also located on the South Side. This year’s guest auctioneer is Daile Kaplan, VP and director of the Photographs Department at New York’s Swann Auction Galleries. In 2012, Silver Eye’s benefit auction generated a record gross income of $110,000 to support the Center’s programs. Before the bidding action kicks off, photo fans can peruse the works at Silver Eye during Friday’s exhibition and reception, which is free and open to the public, and can also check out the works in the live auction portion online. The estimated value of the works up for bid in 2014 range from $400 to $5,000.
