Maxo Vanka’s breathtaking “Gift to America” murals, created in 1937 and 1941 by the Croatian immigrant for St. Nicholas Croatian Catholic Church in Millvale, are among Pittsburgh’s most outstanding hidden cultural gems. Help celebrate this culturally and historical significant masterpiece, and support their much-needed ongoing preservation, at a unique fundraiser taking place at the landmark church. Friday’s “Cocktails & Conservation” event will include remarks and demonstrations by lead conservator Rikke Foulke, of Foulke Fine Art Conservation, and lighting designer Rob Long, principal and creative director of Southside-based Clear Story. The evening of art, history and fare will also feature themed libations by Ladies United for the Preservation of Endangered Cocktails (LUPEC), food by Culinary Artists and live music by the Keystone Adult Tamburitzans.
